Spring is finally here!  Therefore, Passover must be upon us.  Join us for the second Community Seder in our new home.  Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow will lead the seder that will be followed by a delicious pot luck meal.

 

This event is to be veggie/dairy, using Kosher for Passover ingredients. Fish is welcome! Ashkenazic and Sephardic dishes are welcome.  (Sephardic allows some ingredients that Ashkenazic does not, such as rice, corn, and legumes).

  • On a small but legible note card, please name the dish and list all of the ingredients on both sides of the card. (We have many members with food sensitivities.) 
  • For hot main and side dishes, please bring your food in half or full size steam table aluminum pans (available at Party City). All hot food will be set into wire steam tables. All hot food must arrive hot.  It is very important that the pans be purchased at Party City.  Otherwise they won't fit properly in the steam table.  Last year a dish or two went for a swim.
  • Please bring 1 dish serving 8-10 people for every two people in your group, (Round up, so for 1-2 people bring 1 dish; 3-4 people, 2 dishes; 5-6 people, 3 dishes; etc.) in the following categories: Appetizers and Salads, Main Dishes, Side Dishes (starches and hot veggies) and  Desserts. For example, a family of 4 could bring 2 main dishes, or 1 main dish & 1 side dish, or 1 main dish & 1 dessert, etc. We hope to balance the menu, so we might ask you to change what you are bringing if we have too much of the same thing. See menu ideas below.
  •  Please bring either white grape juice or white wine, whichever your family prefers.

 

Volunteers are also needed to bring Seder Plate items.  Please bring enough for each of the 12 seder plates that we will be making this year.  Please let us know which of the following you will be bringing:

  • Charoset: Now that there is such a variety of recipes, try something new or use your traditional version.
  • Shank bones: In keeping with the vegetarian theme, you may roast either mushrooms or beets instead of the bones. However shank bones are welcome.
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Parsley
  • Celery
  • Horseradish
  • Roasted eggs
  • Salt water
  • Oranges
  • Matzah (3 pieces per table for 12 tables = 36 pieces of matzah)

 

HELP NEEDED

Most of our setup will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 2:30. We would like at least 10 people to help set the dining tables and the buffet tables.  The furniture will already be in place.  Then the final set up time will be at 5:30 pm on Saturday and at least another 5 people would be fantastic.  All are welcome to come and help at any of these times.   And please remember--we will need everyone, young and young at heart, to help with cleanup. Please note that the dishes listed below are suggestions. Some of the dishes listed here are from the following cookbooks: The Book of Jewish Food by Claudia Roden, Fast and Festive Meals for the Jewish Holidays by Marlene Sorosky, The Passover Gourmet by Nira Rousso, and The New Jewish Holiday Cookbook by Gloria Kaufer Greene  

  • Appetizers: Gefilte Fish, Sliced Hard Boiled Eggs in Salt Water
  • Salads:  Greens with variety of dressings, Caesar Salad, Greek Salad, Mandarin Orange and Spinach Salad  
  • Main Dishes: Matzah Lasagna, Leek Gratin, Vegetable Dumpling Stew, Baked Salmon, Sauted Vegetables with Garbanzos and Rice, Fish Baked in Tomatoes with Garlic, Basil and Olives, Leek-Cheese Matzah Pie; Poached Salmon
  • Side Dishes: Apple and Raisin Matzah Kugel, Mushroom and Onion Matzah Kugel, Potato Kugel, Spinach with Raisins and Pine Nuts, Vegetarian Tzimmes  
  • Desserts:  Macaroons, Rocky Road Brownies, Chocolate Meringue Kisses, Lemon Bars, Fresh Fruit, Fruit Compote, Walnut and Orange Passover Cake, Chocolate and Almond Cake

The fee for adults who are members is $18.00.  The fee for adults who are not members is $25.00.

Children ages 4-12 are $10.00.  Children 3 and under are free.
