Shavu'ot Service and Study Evening

Saturday, May 19, 2018 5 Sivan 5778

7:00 PM - 11:30 PM

On Shavuot, we celebrate the Israelites receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.

This Saturday night, May 19, starting at 7:00, we are going to have a Shavu'ot service and study session. Plus our famous Blintz Bar!

This year we will have a popup planetarium experience in our sanctuary, presented by Shir Hadash member and science teacher Sean Fisher-Rohde, during which we will learn about Judaism, astrology, and the heavens. We encourage you to bring the kids for this portion of the program. You can come for the planetarium experience, enjoy some blintzes, and then take the kids home to bed (at least, once the blintzes have worn off). Come learn what the expression "mazal tov" really means!

Afterwards, we will have a very special guest: Mayor Harriet Rosenthal of Deerfield. As you may have heard, the Village recently passed an assault weapons ban. The Mayor will talk about this initiative and discuss how her Jewish background and experiences have shaped her actions. Come learn and ask questions!

Our oneg refreshments will feature our fabulous Blintz Bar, back by popular demand, plus other wonderful Shavu'ot treats. Please bring something delicious to contribute, such as a topping for the Blintz Bar or other treats like cheesecake and non-dairy or gluten-free options. Click here to tell us what you'll be bringing.
