2nd Night Community Passover Seder

Saturday, April 20, 2019 • 15 Nisan 5779

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Welcome to our Community Seder 2019!

A 2nd Night Seder led by Rabbi Eitan; where Passover is honored and reconstructed for the 21st Century. A service that is familiar but lively and involving. Passover like you have never seen it before (unless you have already been to a Shir Hadash Seder).  The Seder is followed by a pot luck meal described below.

What To Bring:

This event will be veggie/dairy, using Kosher for Passover ingredients. Fish is welcome! Ashkenazic and Sephardic dishes are welcome.  (Sephardic includes some ingredients that Ashkenazic does not, such as rice, corn, and legumes).

  • On a note card, please name the dish and list all of the ingredients on both sides of the card. (We have many members with food sensitivities.)
  • For hot main and side dishes, please bring your food in half or full size steam table aluminum pans (available at Party City). All hot food will be set into wire steam tables. All hot food must arrive hot.  It is very important that the pans be purchased at Party City; otherwise they won't fit properly in the steam table and your hot dish might go for a swim.  Look for half pan number U.S. Pat. D626, 371 or full pan number HFA 4020.  These numbers are embossed on the bottom of the pans.  Aluminum lids are also available.
  • Please bring 1 dish serving 8-10 people for every two people in your group, (Round up, so for 1-2 people bring 1 dish; 3-4 people, 2 dishes; 5-6 people, 3 dishes; etc.) in the following categories: Appetizers and Salads, Main Dishes, Side Dishes (starches and hot veggies) and  Desserts. For example, a family of 4 could bring 2 main dishes, or 1 main dish & 1 side dish, or 1 main dish & 1 dessert, etc. We hope to balance the menu, so we might ask you to change what you are bringing if we have too much of the same thing. See menu ideas below.
  • Please bring either white grape juice or white wine, whichever your family prefers.

Seder Plates:

Volunteers are also needed to bring Seder Plate items.  Please bring enough for each of the 9 seder plates that we will be making this year.  Please let us know which of the following you will be bringing:

  • Charoset: Make your favorite recipe or try a new one!
  • Shank bones: In keeping with the vegetarian theme, please bring roasted mushrooms or roasted beets instead of the bones. However, shank bones are still welcome.Image associĆ©e
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Parsley
  • Horseradish
  • Roasted eggs
  • Oranges
  • Matzah (5 pieces per table for 9 tables = 45 pieces of matzah)

Help Needed:

Most of our setup will take place on Thursday, April 18 starting at 2:30 pm. We would like at least 10 people to help set the dining tables and the buffet tables.  Then the final set up time will be at 5:30 pm on the day of the seder, and at least another 5 people would be fantastic.  All are welcome to come and help at either of these times. And please remember--we will need everyone, young and young at heart, to help with cleanup. Thank you in advance!

Cost:

Adult Members $25.00, Adult Non-Members $29.00, Children 4-10 years old $10.00 (Children 3 and under are free)
