This month's destination: Jerusalem in the Time of King Herod
When Herod became the Roman client king of Judea in 43 BCE, he had just overthrown the Hasmonean dynasty--the descendants of the Maccabees, and faced threats both internal and external. In addition to his mixed reputation and legendary paranoia, Herod embarked on massive building campaigns, creating some of the most famous ancient places in the region. We'll explore Jerusalem under his rule and see the sights of the ancient world!
