Yom Kippur Study Sessions - Zoom

Thursday, September 16, 2021 10 Tishrei 5782

2:00 PM - 4:00 PMZoom

2 to 4 p.m.: Afternoon Study Sessions (Zoom only) - People who have registered for the High Holidays at Shir Hadash will receive separate Zoom links for these sessions via email.

During the afternoon, we will have several study sessions on Jewish topics that fit the holiday, led by Shir Hadash members.

The first session, at 2 pm, will involve Mussar study, led by members Lynn Liebling and Kayla Shonberg.  Mussar is the Jewish tradition of ethics and character development. Our topic will be tied to the week's Torah portion (Haazinu) and will focus on the character trait of Humility as lived and expressed by Moses, even as he prepares to leave the children of Israel to continue on without his presence.

The second session, at 3 pm, will cover recent events in Israel, led by members Burton Kopulsky and Ed Rice.  The first topic will be COVID in Israel - what their experience (both good and bad) tells us about managing the pandemic and minimizing future disruption.  Then we will review other events in Israel over the past year, including the expansion of the Abraham Accords, a new, diverse ruling coalition, and successes in the Olympics and Paralympics.

Finally, at 4:15 pm, we will return to services together, for the Mincha afternoon service and the Neā€™ilah concluding service--if you wish to attend those afternoon services in person, click here to RSVP.
