Get Involved!

Help Wanted! In order to maintain our vibrant and dynamic community, we need all of our members to support Shir Hadash and volunteer their skills and talents. Many of these opportunities ask for very small time commitments, but it all adds up! Please check area(s) of interest and your information will be forwarded to the appropriate board member. They will get in touch with  you and give you more information.

We encourage every adult member to be involved with 2 projects or teams this year!

THANK YOU!

The Board of Directors

Specific Jobs

These are specific jobs that each committee has defined.  In general, we need 1-5 people for each job, but if we have more volunteers for a given position, the monthly time commitment will be lower.

Create flyers monthly to publicize upcoming Shir Hadash events.  2-4 hours/month, 3-4 people wanted.

We need someone to keep our kitchen neat and tidy.  Make certain everything is in its proper (now labelled!) place, empty the refrigerator, a weekly wipe down, wash the towels.  One hour a week.  We would love a team of 4-5 people so that this is a once a month job!

Coordinate and work with our teens to set up and help at our Sunday morning coffee and bagel bar.  A Sunday morning commitment  3-4 hours, number of Sundays dependent on the number of volunteers.

Set up a monthly Dining for Dollars restaurant fund-raiser.  Create a flyer for marketing or work with marketing to ensure event is properly promoted.  We have a list of potential restaurants available.  1-2 hours/month.

Research and apply for grants.  Grant writing experience desirable but not required.  Time commitment varies.

Organize and run a card program to send Get Well Soon cards to members who have fallen ill as well as sending cards when donations are made in a member's honor or in memorium.  3 upfront hours, about 1 hour/month after that.

Help on the High Holidays with ushering, setting up or cleaning up the sanctuary, preparing the onegs.  There are a wide variety of jobs and we can use a large team!  1-3 hours, during the High Holidays.

A critical job, but not a huge time commitment! The Keeper of the Oneg List (KOL) insures that we have Oneg Hosts and Service Greeters, reminding families of their designated days, forwarding 'how-tos' for our volunteers and helping to fill open time slots (helping, not filling!) 30 minutes a week, from home.

We have been given a large number of Judaica books that need to be sorted and shelved.  We are looking for someone to sort through this donation as well as the books we have on the shelves and create some order.  Best guess, 4-10 hours upfront, 1-2 hours per month to maintain.

Help the office with administrative work.   Flexible time commitment, multiple volunteers needed.

Make in-reach phone calls to our current members and/or out reach phone calls to prospective members.  2-4 hours per month.

Hang flyers in coffee shops and on local information boards.  We need several people to hang flyers (3-5 hours/month) and one person to coordinate (an additional hour/month).

Post press releases onto Patch and TribLocal websites and submit upcoming events and announcements on community calendar listings.  5-10 hours/ month for 2 people.

Come to Religious school and take photographs of several regular days and special events like Purim or Yom Tikkun Olam and email photographs to Education and Marketing teams.

Room parents support the school by contacting parents as necessary, organizes class events outside of school, etc.  There are detailed instructions available.

Organize and manage Rosh Chodesh women's group.  3-4 hours per month

Help man the shop Shir Hadash table at Sunday school and/or help deliver Shop purchases to people unable to pick up.  3-5 hours/ month.

Welcome wagon volunteers meet with new members to deliver welcome packages and answer questions so that new members feel welcomed and comfortable.  3 hours/month.

Write monthly press releases highlighting upcoming or recent Shir Hadash events.  3-5 hours/month.  3 people.
