Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques

Many people tell us that they want a loved one to be remembered in perpetuity. The next time you are in the synagogue, look at our Memorial Plaques, each with its own light, on the walls within the Sanctuary.

Each Plaque ensures that the name of your loved one will be read on his or her yahrzeit, that the light will be lit at Yizkor four times a year, and that you will be mailed an annual notification prior to the appropriate date.

As a current member of the Shir Hadash community, you also have the option to purchase two or more Plaques at the same time, prior to death, so that family member names will be displayed next to each other, and because they do not want other family members to worry about ordering later.

Below is an illustration of the Memorial Wall and a close up of a plaque.  For more information about Memorial Plaques please contact the synagogue office at 847-498-8218 or admin@shir-hadash.org

The cost for a plaque is $360.  Many congregants prepay and reserve plaques.
As always, Shir Hadash is extremely grateful for your contributions.

  • Orders take approximately 6-8 weeks to be processed and completed.

  • The Memorial Plaques are mounted in the Shir Hadash Sanctuary.

  • Each is inscribed with the name of the departed in English and Hebrew, the English date of death and the Hebrew Yahrzeit month and day.

  • Family members can be placed together only if those plaques are purchased at the same time.

  • Each year during the week of the Yahrzeit and for all Yizkor commemorations, a Memorial Light beside the name is lit.
