A 2018 German language film, The Tabacconist is based on a Robert Seethaler novel, about a seventeen-year-old man who travels to Vienna, and becomes an apprentice at a tobacco shop. There, he befriends Sigmund Freud, a customer, who helps him as he falls in love with a music-hall dancer and has no understanding of the female sex. Set during the escalating political and social times as the Nazi occupation of Vienna begins, each has decisions to make regarding staying in or fleeing from Austria.
Watch the movie prior to our discussion night. Under our licence, we have a limited window of time when we can watch it. It will become available on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 8pm, and will close on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 8pm.
